'Contact and Collect' service in Libraries from today

A safe Library lending service under a 'Contact and Collect' scheme will mark the gradual reopening of County Kildare Libraries from today, writes Brian Byrne. In Kilcullen, that service will pertain from tomorrow, Tuesday. There will be no public access to the Library buildings.

The procedure is that members can contact their local Library and request up to five books that the particular branch has on their shelves. An appointment will then be arranged for the books to be collected.

Books may also be returned. All returned books will be 'quarantined' for 72 hours to ensure that they are safe to re-distribute as requested.

Ballitore Library will reopen with this service from 15 June. In the meantime, that branch's Librarian Pauline Fagan will work with Kilcullen's Julie O'Donoghue. A podcast with Julie can be listened to here.

In line with the progression of government guidelines, the library sector will plan further re-opening of services, aligned to health and safety directives. Social distancing and hygiene protocols will be observed with all interactions.

Online services are being maintained, and new members can join online to access eBooks, audiobooks, online magazines and newspapers for free. There are also language and other courses available online through the service.
