Looking Back: Celebrating 107 years

This clipping from The Leinster Leader of 25 September 1982 came from Josephine Byrne, and shows a celebration of a combined 107 years between three people working with the Byrne family business.

Under the headline 'Celebrating a century of service', the story reads: More than a hundred years of working for the same business was celebrated last week by three members of the staff of The Hideout pub, Kilcullen.

They were Billy Dowling, Rachel Young, and Carmel Kennedy, and they were presented with mementoes of the occasion at a special staff dinner in the popular hostelry by Proprietor James J Byrne.

Billy Dowling has worked most of 42 years as a barman in the quaint pub, while Rachel Young has kept the books for various Byrne family businesses for 40 years. Carmel Kennedy has worked for 25 years as head cook in the Hideout restaurant.

"It's not so much 107 years of service, as 107 years of friendship," said Jim Byrne as he made the presentations.
