Kilcullen and Calverstown residents in virtual Biodiversity Week

Paul Leighton explains a detail of beekeeping to KCA's Ray Kelly last year.
Kilcullen's Paul Leighton will be interviewed this week in a series on KFM Radio with biodiversity groups active in Kildare, as part of National Biodiversity Week, writes Brian Byrne.

He will be describing the community activities being undertaken by Kilcullen Biodiversity Group in establishing habitats and improving biodiversity awareness.

A series of mini documentaries on Kildare's Wild Places: Where the Wild Things Are is being presented each day on KFM's Kildare Focus by Calverstown resident and nature expert Juanita Browne, at 2.20pm.

The coronavirus restrictions have changed plans for marking National Biodiversity Week around the country, with public events cancelled and replaced by virtual and broadcast ones.

The week runs from today until 24 May. Kildare County Council is using the hashtag #LoveNature to tag the events on social media.

Kildare County Library Service is hosting a number of events. They began today with a quickly booked-out Zoom presentation on an Introduction to Irish Birds with Patrick Hunt.

Also today and running through until Friday are videos at 11am on the Library Service's Facebook page. These are on Biodiversity and the Climate with Nikita Coulter, and are suitable for 3rd through 6th Classes.

A full list of the events in the county is available here.
