Busy March for Moat Theatre

The Moat Theatre in the heart of Naas town has taken on a new lease of life under new management in the last 18 months, writes Aoife Brennan from the theatre's Marketing Department. One of the new objectives was to open the doors to the community of Naas and the Moat Meitheal hub is ever growing, with many social events take place during the week.

Weekly events at the Theatre include Guitar Lessons for Adults with local musician Pete Kavanagh on Tuesday mornings. Creative Journal Group with Cathy of ArtBeat meet on Tuesday afternoon. The Moat Writers meet on Wednesday morning and have had guest writers to speak to the group. Cuidiú Naas, a parenting/nursing group meet on Thursday morning and every Friday, Naas Country Market takes up residence. Saturday Art Club with Arty Marty from Imagination Station is a drop in for children age 4 – 12 to get creative and Eclecticats’ Game Club meet on the first and third Sunday of every month.

The theatre foyer is currently hosting Spioraid, an Art Exhibition by local painter Ian Ó Droma for the month of March, and another Naas Artist, Sharon Fidgeon hosts Sip and Paint with Sharon on 6th and 28th March. The Moat Theatre café is open Tuesday – Saturday, serving coffee, pancakes, and Gluten Free snacks and treats during the day.

In addition to the packed social club Calendar, the Theatre has a full comedy, music and theatre schedule for the Spring Season.

DirtBirds’ new show #NoFilter has been sold out for some time, and Des Bishop has sold out his two nights of Mia Mamma in April. Tickets are still available for Dirty Dusting, starring X-Factor’s Mary Byrne, on 14th March and another TV Star Norma Sheahan returns to Naas on 21st March with her comedy show Heal Your Hole.

Naas Musical Society’s Sister Act is now fully booked for the entire week-long run in March. Other music acts include Blue’s legend Don Baker Band who returns to Naas for one night only on 20th March, and singers Kieran Goss and Annie Kinsella perform their beautiful album Oh, The Starlins on Mother’s Day, 22nd March.

At the end of March, two plays that were locally produced and recently sold out during their week-long runs at Dublin city centre theatre, Smock Alley, return home to Naas. Sophie, Ben, and Other Problems by Binge Theatre is performed on 26th and Darn Skippy’s Zandra Queen of Jazz on Friday 27th March. A new play and musical event, The Doris Day Story will be performed on 1st April, and visiting Theatre Group Quintessance Theatre perform The Star of Chester’s Lane on the 2nd April.
