All bars to close — Government

The Government has asked all pubs and bars, including hotel bars, to close from tonight until 29 March at least, writes Brian Byrne.

This follows discussions with the Licensed Vintners Association (LVA) and the Vintners' Federation of Ireland (VFI).

Health Minister Simon Harris also asked that people 'cop on' and not hold house parties during the crisis.

He asked that they show 'decency' in a situation that has caused thousands of deaths around the world and two in Ireland.

The move is something of a 'catch-up' by Government after many individual pubs and bars around the country announced their own closures over the last 24 hours.
