Work to start on Community Garden

A spring and summer working schedule has been prepared for the Community Garden project being undertaken by Kilcullen Community Action, writes Brian Byrne.

A revised plan for the garden, to be located on land beside the Library, has been agreed with Kildare County Council, and the project is now ready for initial preparation.

The garden will feature fruit trees, a wildflower meadow, trees and vegetable planters, and there will be a secluded reflection area with benches beside plantings of lavender, ferns, and roses.

A herb garden, and hawthorn hedging around the library site is included in the plan, as are work benches beside the raised vegetable beds.

Under the terms of the agreement, all work on the project will be under the supervision of KCA members. It is hoped that schoolchildren and other groups can be invited in for specific works during the programme.

The overall project is expected to take four years to complete.
