Seed swap initiative in Kilcullen Library
A Seed Swap Box has been placed in Kilcullen Library so that people can exchange spare or unwanted seeds, writes Brian Byrne.
The idea came out of a conversation between Cliona Kelliher and Librarian Julie O'Donoghue on the subject of a possible plant swap.
In the best reuse, recycle, repurpose ethos, an old wine box was converted to the new use.
"Hopefully people will add to the box, and exchange with what is brought in," Cliona says. "It could be just extra seeds from a pack which aren't needed, or seeds collected in a garden."
As a biodiversity promotion idea, it is simple and potentially very effective. And yet another reason to visit the Library.
Anyone using it is encouraged to take pics of the results and post them on social media, using the hashtag #kilcullenseedswap.
