Election turnout running higher in Kilcullen
Polling has been described as 'busy' in Kilcullen this morning, with 24pc turnout reported at 12.30pm, writes Brian Byrne. This is substantially higher that the 17pc figure at the same time in the 2016 General Election.
In some areas nationally there has been higher turnout than expected, including 26pc at Gorey by noon. Before 10am, there had been 3.6pc in Kilcullen, and 8pc in Monasterevin.
In the last General Election, some 63pc of the registered voters in Kilcullen did so. Somewhat short of the national average figure of 65.1pc.
Polling stations remain open until 10pm this evening.
