Kilsaran lodges appeal, Ballyshannon group 'disappointed'

Kilsaran Concrete has lodged an appeal to An Bord Pleanala over the refusal of Kildare County Council to grant planning permission for a sand and gravel extraction project in Ballyshannon, writes Brian Byrne.

The appeal, case reference PL09 .306297, is due to be decided by 6 May 2020.

The application is accompanied by an Environmental Impact Assessment Report and Natura Impact Statement.

The original planning application was refused by KCC at the end of November last year, following a strong campaign by local residents, who formed the Ballyshannon Action group.

Public meetings against the proposal were held in Ballyshannon, Kilcullen, and Ballysax.

Some 229 objections were lodged against the original application.

The Ballyshannon Action Group say they are disappointed, but not surprised that Kilsaran Concrete has appealed the refusal.

Describing the refusal by Kildare County Council as 'very thorough', a statement from the Group says it and its supporters will continue to voice the concerns of the objectors, of whom 229 made submissions to the original application.

The Group says it hopes that An Bord Pleanala agrees with Kildare County Council's decision in refusing 'this completely inappropriate and dangerous development in our area'.

The appeal was lodged with An Bord Pleanala on 2 January, but only appeared on its website today.
