KCC exhibition to feature women artists of a century

An exhibition of artworks to be held in Kildare County Council HQ at the end of the month is the result of 13 women exploring the county's Municipal Art Collection, writes Brian Byrne.

Entitled Glimpses of Escape: your monochrome, my technicolour is launching on Thursday 30 January, at 7pm in Aras Chill Dara.

The exhibition comprises works by women artists in the collection, and has been curated by Vera McEvoy and the Making Marks with Markievicz project group.

They spent four months exploring the collection, the processes, and the lives of the women artists over the last hundred years.

The selection includes works by artists Evie Hone (1894-1955), Sandy Kennedy, Bernie Leahy, Norah McGuinness (1901-1980) Ann McKenna, Carly McNulty, Niamh O'Malley, Amelia Peart, Dorothy Smith and Emma Stroude.

The collection was established in the 1970s in the County Architect department.

The exhibition will run until 6 March, when there will be a closing talk at 1pm as part of International Women's Day 2020.
