Query on 'indefinite' public use of Market Square apartments car park
The question of whether the 39 overground car park spaces provided as part of the Market Square apartments complex can 'indefinitely' be used by the general public is being looked into by Kildare County Council, writes Brian Byrne.
The matter was raised at today's meeting of the Kildare Newbridge MD by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer. She had put down a question asking the Council to confirm that the spaces are privately owned, and if so are there are any stipulations on the owners to ensure indefinite public access?
A report to the question noted that the matter is being dealt with by the Strategic Projects and Public Realm team. Cllr O'Dwyer was told the team are looking into the matter 'and will advise in due course'.
In August, Cllr Fiona McLoughlin Healy was informed by officials that the car park 'is privately owned, but it was a condition of the planning permission that they be available for public use'.
