Last rehearsals for The Seafarer
The Kilcullen Drama Group presentation of The Seafarer by Conor McPherson opens this coming week with the usual invitation preview for the town's seniors on Wednesday 20 November, writes Brian Byrne.
Tickets are on sale for the other nights, 21, 22 and 23 November. Proceeds from the Gala Night on Friday will go towards the provision of a wheelchair accessible toilet in the Kilcullen Community Centre.
With the unexpected indisposition of director Mischa Fekete, Eilis Phillips has taken over the final rehearsals at what is arguably the trickiest time in the production of a play. Lighting has to be finalised, the set is not yet completed, and Eilis has had to pick up on the nuances of the play which Mischa has developed with his cast.
They are Connor Ryan as Sharky, Maurice O’Mahony as Richard, Fergal Sloan as Ivan, Liam McManus as Nicky and Alan Clarke as Mr Lockhart.
The play itself is a mix of comedy and the dark world, set in a Dublin suburb around a poker game where a visitor comes to claim a debt.
"It's all a bit scary," Eilis says, and she's not only talking about the plot. "But it'll all work out."
It always does. And anyway Mischa is in constant contact. "I think he wants to make sure I don't mess with his play," Eilis grins.
He doesn't have to worry. Tickets are on sale in Berneys Chemist, booking 045 481497.
