Councillor brings 2020 area engineer on Kilcullen tour

Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer brought Kildare Newbridge MD Area Engineer Brenda Cuddy on a tour through Kilcullen recently, to familiarise her with elements of the councillor's own priority programme for the coming year, writes Brian Byrne.

Kilcullen will come under Ms Cuddy's responsibility at the end of 2019, when the town transfers in engineering matters from the Naas MD. Old Kilcullen, Two Mile House, and Brannockstown will also come under the full responsibility of the Kildare Newbridge engineering area.

Cllr O'Dwyer said she wanted the new area engineer to be able 'to hit the ground running' when she takes over responsibility. "“I highlighted the need for pedestrian crossings, traffic calming measures and yellow boxes in areas of Kilcullen, as well as reviewing the situation regarding traffic flows around Sunnyhill Road and Thompson’s Cross."

Improvements needed on footpaths and road surfaces both in estates and throughout the locality, were also discussed, in particular Logstown, Kilcullen, New Abbey, Brannockstown, Athgarvan and Two Mile House.

Cllr O'Dwyer also discussed the issue of bus shelters with the engineer, which she says will be 'a key priority'. She said the visit was 'timely and productive'.
