Street signs programme moves ahead

The long-running saga of new street signage in Kilcullen has now moved forward, writes Brian Byrne.

KCA members and a Council senior engineer have walked around the town to confirm where main signs are needed. In a number of instances they will be replacing existing Council signs. This meeting was facilitated by Cllr Fiona McLoughlin Healy.

Five new town entrance signs have been agreed on, and it is hoped these will be in place before the end of this year, when responsibility for Kilcullen in roads and engineering transfers to the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.

The signage project has been in train for several years as part of the KCA Town Plan. The group has already acquired some funds towards the cost, and had received an indication that the Kildare Leader Partnership is prepared to consider grant funding of up to 75pc of the cost once the Council agreed to the project. An application for this will now be made to Leader.

A project document produced by KCA details the extent of the programme, which will include official town name signs on all approach roads, as well as signage for all roads in Kilcullen, and some tourism-related signs.

The suggested colour scheme is mainly black and white as these are the Kilcullen colours.
