More fairy houses, but vandalism 'disappoints'

A number of new fairy houses are to be installed in the Valley Park, and a red post box for children to send letters to Santa will be in place soon, writes Brian Byrne.

But last night's meeting of Kilcullen Community Action also heard that vandalism means some of the existing signs have to be replaced, as they are missing.

KCA chair Ann Cashman said that was very disappointing, as the Valley 'is a huge source of enjoyment' for families with young children.

In a discussion, it was agreed that the fairy signs need to be installed more securely, perhaps in concrete. There was also a suggestion that a CCTV camera be installed to monitor access points to the park, but this was deferred to further consideration of CCTV for the town.

The town Christmas lights are to be extended to the Valley this year, and the trees in the Credit Union Garden will also be lit again.

Antoinette Buckley said it was good to see the lights being added to every year. She also noted that a Fairy Trail sign will be permanently installed on the gable end of the recently refurbished historic building at the Valley entrance, courtesy of the owners.
