Kilcullen company beats top US producers for prestige contract
Kilcullen-based craft leather company Carve On won a high prestige contract in the US to help commemorate the bi-centenary of one of America's oldest private banks, writes Brian Byrne.
The Irish company produced a replica of a leather wallet/chequebook holder which Brown Brothers Harriman used to provide their customers with more than century ago.
According to Alan McCormack, creative director of Carve On, the company which used to make the original wallets had ceased trading in the 1950s.
"Their main factory is now a museum," Alan says. "The bank found us through a Google search, and after three months of pitching, designing and prototyping, we won a six-figure contract to provide a modernised replica."
Carve On beat off two American companies for the €200,000 contract, one of whom is one of the largest leather goods in the US. Neither competitor could compete with the Kilcullen company's speed and level of service.
The Irish company shipped the finished products to the bank's offices all over the world, and hand-delivered the last batch to New York.
