Extension of CCTV grants sought
An extension to the grant funding for community CCTV systems is being sought by Deputy Martin Heydon in association with Kildare councillors, writes Brian Byrne.
The scheme has been available since 2017, and 21 applications from around the country have been approved to a total of more than €540,000.
But delays in agreeing technical specifications and agreeing protocols around Data Protection means that many interested groups are not yet in a position to apply for funding. Kilcullen is among these.
The scheme's current closing date is 31 December 2019, and Deputy Heydon has asked Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan and Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform to consider an extension.
Eligible groups can apply for grant aid up to 60pc of the total capital cost of a scheme, to a maximum of €40,000.
There are also grants for upgrades to existing schemes, and for maintenance.
