Talk on Dublin-Kilcullen toll road tonight

Don't forget that Ireland's First Toll Road will be the subject of the next talk in the Kilcullen 700 history and heritage series, to be held tonight, writes Brian Byrne.

The road in question was from Dublin to Kilcullen and was established in 1729 by a special act of the Irish parliament, in order to raise funds to repair the road, 'that in the winter Season many parts thereof are impassible for Waggons, Carts, Cars and Carriages and very dangerous for travellers' as was stated in the preamble to the Act.

It will be given by Brian McCabe, a local historian and member of the Kill History Group.

The talk is free to attend, and begins at 8pm in the Town Hall. Everybody welcome.
