KBC Summer club in full swing
If anyone is interested in playing some badminton our summer club has started, writes match secretary Enda O'Neill. Badminton is a great way to improve or maintain your fitness as it is the world’s fastest racquet sport.
We play on Tuesday nights at 9pm and the fee to play is €7 per night and your first night is free play. The venue is as ever The Community Centre, Kilcullen. Log on to our website or our Facebook page for any information. We love to see new faces and all levels are welcome so why don’t you come down and give it a try?
On Thursday 16th of May Kilcullen Badminton Club held their AGM, there were two changes on the working committee. The following members were elected into the following positions: Chairperson: Barry O’Neill. Secretary: Jennifer Monaghan. Match Secretary: Enda O’Neill. PRO: John Mullen. Treasurer: Clive Cole.
The Incoming committee would like to thank the two outgoing members, Vincent Coller and Martin Dunne. Both men have worked hard over the last few seasons within the committee giving over countless hours to try promote and better our club.
A Selection Committee was also elected for the upcoming season. The role of selection committee is to decide the new teams to play in next seasons Dublin District League and South West League Competitions. The Selection Committee are as follows: Teresa McGlynn, Vincent Coller, Gareth Hogan, Enda O’Neill, and John Mullen.
The Selection committee choose the team based on the CAC points that each member has accumulated over the season and current partnerships. The selection process will commence towards the end of the summer club and start of the new season.
Kilcullen Badminton Club had a bit of success in the Dublin District over 35’s League with John Mullen and Enda O’Neill (who barely qualified to play on age grounds!). John and Enda played with two ladies from Sheriff Street Badminton Club, Angie Downs and Yvette Ebbs. Amazingly none of the ladies in our club have reached the 35 age bracket yet, or so they say! The Tournament was held in Badminton HQ, Baldoyle and was run over a six week period with each team playing each other once and the top team from each section going straight to the Final. The Final was played on Thursday 7th June and the opposition was Danum Badminton Club. In a tough match the Kilcullen/Sheriff Street team beat Danum 3-0. The score not reflecting on the tightness of the games. Well done to Yvette, Angie and Kilcullen's John and Enda who end their season on a high as Div 5 Champions.
