A busy weekend upcoming
There’s a lot going on in Kilcullen this weekend, writes Brian Byrne. Then, whenever has it been that there hasn’t?
Anyhow, the Mid Summer Melodies on Saturday afternoon in Brannockstown will raise funds for the World Vision charity and at the same time provide lots of local entertainment for those attending. The charity was a favourite of the late Pastor Robert Dunlop and is taking place at his home, La Touche Cottage, from 2pm-5pm, hosted by Olive Dunlop. If the weather is as kind as it was for the 2017 event as depicted here, it will be a stunning event.
Then tomorrow evening at 7.30, Christy Moore will be unveiling in the Heritage Centre a plaque to Frank Conroy, a Kilcullen man killed in 1936 while fighting with the International Brigade for Republican Spain. Conroy is featured in Christy Moore’s song Viva La Quinte Brigada.
On Sunday the Acoustic Picnic 5 is scheduled to provide lots of music, poetry and storytelling to those who wander the paths and stopping points on the Bridge Community Farm & Nature Trail. A splendid and very family friendly programme of entertainment is guaranteed. All welcome to bring their own picnic, and donations will be accepted for Maintain Hope.
