Votes sorting under way
The preliminary sorting of votes from yesterday's elections in Kildare is now underway at the Count Centre in Punchestown, writes Brian Byrne.
While boxes from a number of LEAs have been opened, the Newbridge area which is our interest won't see tally count starting until 2pm, it seems. The actual count for the Newbridge area is not scheduled until tomorrow morning around 9.30.
Of our local candidates, I only found Fianna Fail's Rob Power, Independent Fiona McLoughlin Healy (above), and Chris Pender (below) from the Social Democrats in place, but no doubt we'll have everybody come lunchtime.
The Diary will cover things from a Newbridge LEA perspective as soon as tally results become available. Which means most of the real count action is likely tomorrow, and with the number of candidates on the list, it could be a long vigil.
