American corn chips maker Doritos have produced a 'safe for space' version that has been filmed for advertising in space — Cool Ranch Zero Gravity Doritos. To eliminate the threat of dust and crumbs in the zero-gravity conditions, the traditional powdered flavour topping has been replaced by an oil-based coating. They are also a 'mini' size, to reduce the chances of fragment escape while being eaten. The snack was filmed in the recent Polaris Dawn commercial mission on a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, with four private astronauts becoming the first people to eat Doritos in space, as well reaching an altitude above Earth not achieved by a human spaceflight in more than 50 years.
