Final voting turnout in Kilcullen is 48pc

The final turnout in Kilcullen on this election day is 48pc, writes Brian Byrne. This is a respectable increase on the 41pc of the last local elections in 2014.

With an hour to go before the polls closed, the turnout in Kilcullen was at 38pc, a figure representing something of a teatime ‘surge’ from 5.50pm when 28pc of the local electorate had cast their vote.

After polling which was described as 'quiet enough' this morning with just 3pc of the town's electorate having cast their votes by 10am, the turnout reached 14pc at 1pm.

There were three ballot papers for most voters — for the Referendum on the divorce waiting period, for the Midlands North West constituency of the European Parliament, and for the Newbridge LEA in the council elections.
