Newbridge LEA count delayed

Because of a request for a full recount of the Celbridge LEA at a quarter to one this morning, the count for the Newbridge LEA will now be delayed until the early afternoon, writes Brian Byrne. It had been scheduled to begin at 9am.

The tally results yesterday for Newbridge were Independent Fiona McLoughlin Healy 2,251 (22.5pc) followed by Fine Gael’s Peggy O’Dwyer 1,063 (10.6pc), Fianna Fail’s Rob Power 1,007 (10.1pc), FG Tracey O’Dwyer 965 (9.6pc), FF Noel Heavey 718 (7.2pc), Social Democrat Chris Pender 696 (7pc), FF Antoinette Buckley 570 (5.7pc), FF Murty Aspell 477 (4.8pc), FG Tom Dempsey 465 (4.6pc), Green Party Enda Connolly 430 (4.3pc), Independent Morgan McCabe 412 (4.1pc), Sinn Fein Noel Connolly 333 (3.3pc), Aontus Damian Molyneaux 322 (3.1pc), Labour Ciara O’Reilly 198 (2pc), Independent Gerard Delaney 104 (1.0pc).

In the count for the Athy LEA, Kilcullen interest and outgoing councillor Ivan Keatley of Fine Gael has been elected to the third seat, leaving two seats yet to be filled. Labour's Mark Wall topped the poll and was followed in by his party colleague Aoife Breslin. UPDATE: Samantha Kelly EXCLUDED; Tony McNamee ELIMINATED.

For those interested in Kilcullen's previous MD, Naas, Vincent P Martin was elected on the fourth count with 1,462 votes. Fine Gael's Fintan Brett (1,269) and first timer Evie Sammon (1,211) have both polled well, as has Brian Larkin for Fianna Fail (1,004) and long-serving Independent Seamie Moore (971). Bill Clear is flying a strong flag for the Social Democrats with 925 votes so far. After that comes Anne Breen for Labour with 917 so far, then FG Darren Scully (880), Labour's Fergus Carpenter (845), Independents Gerard Dunne (436) and Sorcha O'Neill (431/ELIMINATED). The three lowest at the moment are Ashling Merriman of Solidarity-People Before Profit (314/ELIMINATED), FF Terry Dignam (285/ELIMINATED) and Sinn Fein's Niall Flynn (275/ELIMINATED).
