Remembering 1798 ... and 1998

At the height of yesterday's summer day warmth, PJ Willis was working away in the afternoon cleaning up the commemoration stone for the 1798 Rebellion at the bridge, writes Brian Byrne.

The stone was originally placed in 1998 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Rebellion, and was unveiled by the late Paddy Nugent.

Afterwards, there was a gathering at Old Kilcullen where the original local battle took place, and Brian Keyes spoke about the event.
