JB takes final stage of Rás Mumhan

Yesterday in Killorglin JB Murphy won the last stage of the Kerry Group Rás Mumhan, writes Liam Walker.

Riding on the Leinster team JB won from his breakaway partner Sean Hassehy from the Dan Morrissey squad. The four-day race in Kerry was run over the hills on the Ring of Kerry peninsula and brought out the best from the field of 150 riders.

As far as I can remember this is the first time a rider from Kildare won a stage since the late great Paddy Flanagan RIP. This win is all the more surprising as JB had been under the weather for the last week due to a chest infection. His next outing is in two weeks' time when again he has been selected to represent Leinster in the three-day Tour of the North.

JB is a member of the Kilcullen cycling Club for the last five years and is grateful for the support from our club sponsors Murphy Surveys.

After the race in Ulster JB returns to Majorca for more training in his specialised field of Track riding. He then goes to Andorra for some altitude training in preparation for the European Track Championships before returning for the Murphy Surveys Charity Cycle in aid of Crumlin Children's Hospital, which is on Saturday 20th of July.
