Gráinne and Brendan in the BAG
Gráinne Hunt is no stranger to BAG, having performed for us several times, writes Roy Thompson of the Ballymore Acoustic Gigs.
It's a pleasure to welcome her back, this time with her collaborator, Brendan Walsh, and the fruits of a new project — Songs of Ireland.
It is a new Irish folk project and record on which they perform a collection of traditional Irish ballads and folk songs in both English and Irish, carefully arranged by Brendan to give a modern new feel to beautiful old songs.
Gráinne and Brendan met in 2000 when they both attended NUI Maynooth, completing the BA (Music) together there. In early 2018 they joined forces to perform at Shannonside Winter Music Festival and from there, Songs from Ireland was born.
The album was recorded in Soundville Studios, Luzern, Switzerland, and the 13 tracks include Raglan Road, Trasna na dTonnta, Song for Ireland and Mo Ghile Mear.
Mick Murphy's, Ballymore Eustace, Co. Kildare, on Monday 15 April. Doors open 8:30pm. Gig 9pm sharp.
