Culture Night 2019 deadline date

The deadline for registration of Culture Night 2019 events is 14 June.

The event itself this year will take place on Friday 20 September, and all groups and organisations involved with the arts and heritage are invited to participate.

Venues open their doors after hours for a late-night programme of free entertainment, suitable for people of all ages and cultural persuasions. Every year hundreds of organisations, groups and artists plan fantastic events and the programme sees thousands of people attending.

This will be the 10th anniversary of the initiative and Kildare County Council will also launch their Music Generation Project as part of the 2019 programme. All events are welcome, as usual, including Saturday and Sunday events.

In addition to single events, the Council is also supporting Community projects that will contribute to the promotion of the programme in the weeks prior to Culture Night. They must involve local groups (such as GAA clubs, schools and so on) and produce a visible outcome in one or more town's centres (shops windows displays or pop up performances and so on in main streets or squares). Selected projects will be awarded a grant of €500.

For further information and help or to apply please contact Culture Night Kildare Coordinator, Federica Petronilli at culturenightkildare@gmail.com, or phone 083 1698936.

Last year's Culture Night presentation in Kilcullen was about the Rebellion of 1798 as it related to Kilcullen and included history, song and stories from the time, illustrated with contemporary drawings and paintings. Gerry O'Donoghue, pictured above, who gives the annual talk on the site of the battle at Old Kilcullen, provided the core details of the event, including how bloody and treacherous it was.

The other contributors were Maurice O’Mahony, Joe Kelly, Francie O’Brien, and Frank Morrow.
