Kilcullen's Division 5 Mix, John Mullen, Jen Monaghan, Chelsey Cox and Vincent Coller. |
Out first was John Mullen and Vincent Coller and in a tough game the KBC lads edged it winning in a three set thriller. Jen and Chelsey Cox went out next and after losing the first set they were unfortunate to lose the second set 23-21. This meant Kilcullen's first mix of Chelsey and Vincent needed to win at least a set in their game to keep Kilcullen in the match. Alas it wasn’t to be their night and with Chelsey and Vincent beaten in two sets the game was up for KBC. It’s a tough way to end the season for Jen and her team after been undefeated all season but the team can be proud with their season.
Sunday 14th of April KBC’s Grade 2 and 3 Mix teams travelled to Whitehall Road to compete in the Inter Leagues Semi Finals. Our Grade 3 team captained by Jen faced Kildalky from Westmeath, John McGrane and Enda O’Neill were out first and were beaten in two tough sets, Chelsey and Jen did better but were also beaten this time in three sets. John Mullen and Oisin Egan gave the Kilcullen outfit a little hope when they won second mens in two sets. Bernie Smyth and super sub Marie Gallagher played second ladies and after a courageous effort were also beaten in two sets. Kilcullen now 3-1 down going into the mix games. First mix of John Mc and Chelsey were unlucky beaten in two sets by a strong Kildalky pair. It was up to Bernie and John to try save the day but alas they were also beaten by the Kildalky second mix sending Kilcullen home early.
Kilcullen's Grade 2 Mix captained by Murt Dunne did fare better in their semi final against Kilmessan of Meath. In a very close match, Kilcullen beat their counterparts by a mere five points after finishng 4-4 in games and also equal in sets, setting up a final showdown with Dublins, Old School. In a fairly one sided final Kilcullen were on the receiving end of a 5-2 defeat, a tough end to the season for Kilcullens Grade 2 team. Murt and his team, Tara O’Neill, Sinead Kelly, Rachel Cass, David Jackson, Mick Cass and super subs on the day (who played three matches!) Chelsey Cox and John McGrane on great performances over the season.
