1798 Concert on Saturday night
A conversation with Frank Morrow resulted in a presentation in Kilcullen Community Library, during Heritage Week 2018, of aspects of the Insurrection of 1798 with particular emphasis on the Kilcullen area, writes Gerry O'Donoghue. The presentation was punctuated by songs inspired by the period and also showcased Frank’s talents as a songwriter with the premiere of his song to mark the 700th anniversary of 'The Old Bridge' at Kilcullen.
As part of the Kilcullen 700 celebrations, the presentation will be repeated on Saturday March 16, in The Town Hall at 7.30pm, and the celebrations will continue with a concert of music and song in keeping with the eve of St Patrick’s Day. Some of our French guests engaged in the twinning initiative will also attend. After all, Napoleon sent three military expeditions to Ireland in 1798, the 'Year of the French'.
There will be contributions from Frank Morrow, Mary Murray Joe Kelly, Jeremy Burke, Francie O’Brien, Niamh Murray, Maurice O’ Mahoney and myself, Gerry O’Donoghue. The event is free and everyone is welcome.
