Walking Football for Kilcullen
A Walking Football session for over-50s will take place at the Kilcullen Community Centre Astro pitch on Tuesday 12 March, writes Brian Byrne.
The event is free, will be held from 7-9pm, and further information is available from Ger Finan on 087 2327361, with whom bookings can also be made.
One of the fastest growing team sports, the initiative is in association with Hi Mobility Ireland and the Kildare Sports Partnership.
Walking football was devised in 2011 by the Chesterfield FC Community Trust. Rules include that if a player runs then they concede a free kick to the other side. There's also a ban on slide tackles, and the ball must never be kicked above hip height.
The sport promotes cardiovascular fitness whilst producing the least stress on the body.
