February Bridge now on sale
The February issue of The Bridge, Kilcullen's community magazine, is now on sale in the usual outlets, writes Brian Byrne.
As the first issue of the year that's in it, the lead story by Noel Clare gives the background and plans about the Kilcullen 700 anniversary of the first bridge being built here. There's also a report on one of the events, the first in a series of monthly talks on Kilcullen's history and heritage.
News items include word on the recent Sarah Swaine Memorial run and the follow up auction to be held in The Spout this weekend, the recent win in the BT Young Scientists by a pair of CPC students, and a variety of celebrations for local peoples' big events.
A new Legal Matters feature by local solicitor Robert Coonan kicks off with the benefits of an Enduring Power of Attorney. The benefits of a suitable diet and exercise are recounted by Dec Lavin, and Mary Orford has the first of a couple of articles based on what used to go on in the Old Courthouse on Main Street.
There are a couple of other 'looking back' articles, one a re-publishing of a profile of Francis Shortt originally written by Nuala Collins 25 years ago, the other a reprint of an article in a Bridge of 1972, about the known history of Kilcullen.
In regular features, Billy Redmond muses on Conor McGregor and a missed chance to encourage road safety, the increasing danger to journalists around the world, and a couple of events he enjoyed over Christmas. Julie Felsbergs (Dunlop) ruminates on No Room at the Inn attitudes, and the Out and Away from Kilcullen this month is about The Wicklow Way. Our For Animal Lovers page raises concerns about the KWWSPCA shelter.
We also have news from the Scouts, the Schools, the Sports clubs, and more. Where would you get so much for €2?
In the usual outlets, of course ...
