Remembering The Saint on Christmas Day
For very many years now it has been a tradition for the Diary to record the Christmas Day gathering in Michael and Betty Lambe's home, writes Brian Byrne.
The event is Michael and his family's continuation of a tradition established by his own father on Main Street, 'when he would have friends in for a bottle of stout on the way home from Christmas Day mass'.
The recent tradition has involved sending a Christmas Day greeting to Donal St Leger in New Jersey, a Kilcullen native who always looked in on the Diary but especially on Christmas Day.
Last Christmas, we lost 'The Saint'. But as is clear from the video above, he's not forgotten. So. this year the greeting is for his family in America, to say that he has been remembered today. Vivian Clarke and Michael Lambe say the words, everybody present remembers.
