National Heritage Plan, have your say
An opportunity for local communities like Kilcullen to get a say in the management our heritage is afforded by a national public consultation currently under way from the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, writes Brian Byrne.
The Heritage Ireland 2030 consultation is asking for submissions from groups and individuals under three themes which will form the basis for a plan to protect national heritage elements through the next decade.
These include developing an effective policy and regulatory framework on heritage which respects the beauty and irreplaceability of our built heritage and habitats.
Heritage partnerships with other national and community groups will be a key part of the plan, to ensure that the national and local heritage is valued, protected and enjoyed.
The Department says it is committed to listening and respecting the voices of communities in developing Heritage Ireland 2030, and will help and support local initiatives aimed at taking care of their heritage.
Submissions can be made in three ways. An online survey is available here. The Department can also be emailed at heritageireland2030@chg.gov.ie. And submission may be made by post to Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Custom House Dublin 1, D01 W6XO.
The brochure on the initiative prepared by the Department is available here.
