Scheme to reuse old computers, smartphones

A pilot event at Kildare County Council HQ in Naas, on 19 October, will provide an opportunity for people to dispose of old laptops, tablets and smartphones, writes Brian Byrne.

It is part of a research project involving the Environmental Protection Agency and the University of Limerick to see how much waste IT equipment is available for re-use.

The Green IT company which specialises in refurbishing computers and smartphones will assess each item brought along as to whether it can be refurbished for resale or recycled.

The event will be in the Council's Car Park, between 8am-2pm, and all data on any equipment brought will be destroyed.
