Round the world Anna back in Ireland

Anna Harrington, the American woman who is walking around the world to highlight a critical shortage of water for a billion people, came back to Kilcullen yesterday on the next leg of her Irish walk, writes Brian Byrne.

She visited pupils in CPC and stayed in Conroy Park last evening before setting out for Athy this morning, escorted by Transition Year CPC students.

Between now and the end of December, Anna will walk all around Ireland before leaving for the next part of her trip, which she is doing in stages, which will eventually bring her through Russia, Kazakstan, Mongolia and China.

For this latest portion of her trip, CPC students will be following her virtually around Ireland and promoting her cause to the various towns and cities she will be staying in.

Deputy Martin Heydon, to whom she handed a letter for Foreign Minister Simon Coveney when she was last in Ireland in May, has organised a meeting with Minister Coveney during this next period. The letter asked the Minister to make sure Ireland fulfils its commitment to the 17 global Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. The provision of clean water and sanitation to all is goal number six.

Anna had to take a break from completing her Irish walk because as a non-EU citizen she is restricted from spending more than three months in the country at a time.
