Credit Union can help with back to school costs
As August progresses, the cost of sending children back to school looms for many families, writes Brian Byrne.
Even for primary school alone, Zurich Insurance estimates the costs at €830 per child, while second level costs are around €1,500. According to Irish League of Credit Union surveys, the average spend can be in the order of €1,200 per child.
The costs mount up when the money needed for uniforms, shoes, winter wear, books, bags and even bus tickets are calculated and combined.
Other costs can include paying for after school activities, lunches, trips, parents association fees, and the notorious 'voluntary contribution'.
