Repairs under way on church roof
Work is in train on repairing the roof of the church, which has been patched with plastic since being damaged in storm Ophelia last November, writes Brian Byrne.
In April, a sum of €25,000 was allocated towards repairs to the roof from heritage grant funding. Of the total, €22,000 is from the Structures at Risk Fund and a further €3,000 from the Built Heritage Investment Scheme.
The funding was confirmed by The Minister for Culture, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan, under the 2018 Structures at Risk Fund and the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2018.
The Ophelia damage was the third time in recent years that the church suffered this kind of damage, in the Ophelia event opening up the roof in a new section.
It is understood that a complete re-roofing will eventually be necessary, and discussions have been ongoing with the Diocese about the matter.
