Kilcullen graveyards blessing date 'uncertain'
The Kilcullen Graveyards Committee says it will not be able to facilitate the Blessing of the Graves recently announced for 22 July, writes Brian Byrne.
Fr Niall Mackey says the date for the event is now 'uncertain'.
Members of the 30-strong Committee met on Wednesday evening to discuss the matter, and decided that due to holidays commitments and the possibility of a clash with Kildare GAA playoffs, that not enough of them would be available to safely steward the event.
The Committee has suggested it take place on 9 September, reverting to a time of the year when the event was held for many years in KIlcullen.
The Pastoral Council was informed of the decision in a letter. It is understood that a meeting is being arranged between the Committee and the clergy to try and reach an agreed date.
