Concept plan in preparation for Square workshop

Public consultation event in Market Square.
A concept design will be shown at a workshop to be scheduled before the summer on the proposed redevelopment of Market Square, writes Brian Byrne.

The recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action also heard that a plan will be in place for the application for funding under the Town Renewal grant scheme in May.

Giving a progress update, Eoin Houlihan said a date hadn't yet been set for the workshop, which will involve the KCA sub-committee working on the project, including the councillors involved, and the urban design consultants led by James Hennessy.

Niall McDonnell raised a concern that the imminent new parking and road realignment in the Lower Kilcullen area might go ahead and have to be changed once the final plan is agreed for Market Square. But Eoin Houlihan said that KCC Director of Services Joe Boland was liaising with the authority's planners to make sure there was joined up thinking on this matter.

Architect and sub-committee member Laura Bowen is working on the concept plan, which will form the basis for discussions at the workshop. It will take into consideration ideas and suggestions gained during a recent public consultation event in the square.

A survey of parking which was subsequently conducted will also form part of the workshop discussion.
