New Abbey Road made safer
Substantial road improvement works have been taking place on the New Abbey Road over the past few months to improve safety, particularly on the three bends approaching the town, writes Noel Clare.
A major new drainage system was installed on one of the bends where a number of underground springs tend to lead to the presence of water on the road, particularly during the winter months. The road has been the scene of many accidents due to the ensuing icy conditions.
An anti skid surface has also been put in place on the three bends. All in all it should make winter driving along the road considerably safer.
