Badminton update
Kilcullen’s competitive season began with four matches played over the past fortnight in the South West Leinster Badminton League, writes Tara O'Neill.
First to dust off their rackets was Mick Cass and his Grade 2 Men’s team composed of himself, Murt Dunne, David Jackson and John McGrane. The newly formed team had home advantage on their side but it was not to be their night as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to a strong Carlow team.
Next up was another home fixture, this time for Maeve Valory and her Grade 5 Ladies team. Maeve, Emer, Grace and Teresa went in feeling nervous with some new players and partnerships to get used to and while they put up a good fight, the ladies were unlucky to be beaten by Baltinglass with some tight scores.
The first of Kilcullen’s teams to travel for an ‘Away’ match this season were Vincent Coller and his Grade 3 Men’s team, compromised of John Mullen, Kasi Vallinayagam and Richie Prendergast. The men faced the ever-familar Kildare and were unlucky to suffer a 3-1 defeat which they are confident they will turn around on home soil.
This week’s fixtures ended on a positive note with Karen Malone and her Grade 3 Ladies securing a 3-1 win over Mullingar. Go on the girls! Well played Kathrin Logan, Sarah Walshe and Bernie Smyth.
Well done to all teams and best of luck to those who have games coming up this week.
