Kilcullen music students at Orlandus Summer School
Four Kilcullen music students recently took part in the Orlandus Summer School for Choir and Organ 2017 which was held in the hall of St Kevin's Church in Harrington Street in Dublin, writes Brian Byrne.
They were Kilcullen's Organ Scholar Ella Fallon, with Eanna Fox Lane, Alannah Ingoldsby, and Caitlin Smith. Ella is currently studying in DIT, while the others are students at CPC.
They were among just 20 young musicians in the event, for which the Choral Director was Dr Ite O’Donovan, the Vocal Coach was Dr Imelda Drumm, and the Organ Tutor was Dr Paul McKeever.
The Orlandus Summer School 2017 Choir sang Byrd's Mass for Four Voices at a Latin Mass in St Kevin's Church, Harrington Street on Sunday 13 August, in the liturgical setting for which it was composed. Considering most members had never before performed music by Byrd, these young singers, aged on average between 14 and 16 years, did remarkably well.
They also sang A. Scarlatti: Ad te Domine levavi animam meam, Byrd's Ave verum, plainchant Propers and antiphons, Gloria VIII (Missa de angelis) and Credo III.
Peter Moloney, who was instrumental in recruiting the Kilcullen group for the Summer School, said they were excellent and a credit to the town and their music teachers.
