New theatre concept for teenagers

An opportunity for teenagers who would like to act and dance in a new performance concept can get involved in a Kilcullen theatre class which will result in Moat Theatre appearances next March, writes Brian Byrne.

The concept is being developed by Evelyn O’Sullivan and Anne O’Connell, and is described as a ‘play with dancing’. Evelyn is the director of Drama Dynamics in Kilcullen, and Anne is a teacher at Cross & Passion College.

Both worked together for the College’s TY Year production of ‘The 39 Steps’, directed by Evelyn and choreographed by Anne.

“It is a new concept in theatre performance which is not stage school or musical theatre,” Evelyn says. “This is a play with dancing. The actors and dancers can choose to act, dance or both.

“Basically we are looking for anyone aged 12-18 who would like to get involved to come along and register in the Drama Dynamics studio on Thursday 7 September at 7.30pm.”

The programme will result in a full production, just like ‘The 39 Steps’, and it isn’t necessary for participants to be in the Drama Dynamics school.

Following registration, it is planned that rehearsals will begin on 14 September.
