Kilcullen guard of honour for Denis Melia
Kilcullen GAA will be doing a guard of honour for the funeral of former Rags player and referee, Dennis Melia. Meet today at 10:30am at Glennon’s Funeral home in Newbridge.
Dennis Melia played for Kilcullen for almost 10 years, he played on Kilcullen teams that won the Junior B championship in 1970 plus Junior A in 1971 as well as the Jack Higgins Cup that year. He also won the Murphy Cup and Div 2&3 Senior League. Dennis also represented Kilcullen as a Club referee for many years. He was originally from Athgarvan and was the youngest player at 16 to win a Jack Higgins with them. He was also a great clubman in Kilcullen during his playing career, full of talent and had a great will to win, Dennis feared nothing.
God rest him, a true Gael and a lovely guy.
— Christy Howard.
