Halverstown NS pupils are craft TV stars
Pupils of the senior classes in St Joseph's NS in Halverstown appear in an RTE TV series, 'Makers', writes Brian Byrne.
The series explores Irish craftmaking, and filmed willow work made by the St Joseph's pupils as part of the Heritage in Schools scheme.
The willow crafts and sculptures were made under the direction of Kildare town-based Elizabeth Murphy, and include structures for the school's new sensory garden. The piece follows Elizabeth Murphy through all the areas of her craft.
The 'Makers' episode involving the work can be seen on the RTE Player here, available until 10 February. In part of it, we see Elizabeth talking to pupils about growing willows to get the raw material for the works.
It was first broadcast on RTE Jr on 1 November.
