Painting the town, everything but red ...
The level of painting being carried out on business and residential premises in Kilcullen was commended at the most recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action as a big help to the Tidy Town effort, writes Brian Byrne.
Even in recent days there's been a further increase in such work on Main Street, with the ladders and scaffolding up around Ladbrokes beside the Hideout, refurbishing of frontages at the former Pretty Little Things shop, and refreshing of An Tearmann only some of the latest things happening.
And anyone looking at Market Square will be very aware of the painting of the various premises there. Which has its own tale. Brian Fallon of the well-known restaurant and bar arranged for all of them to be painted in a professionally-planned design where each building is colour keyed to the rest. When the job is completed it should all look really well.
"What really made it possible was the grant-aid we received from Kildare County Council," Brian told the Diary. "There's a fund there to help with improvements to small towns in the county, and this helped us significantly with the total cost."
The recent painting of the former Petits Pets shop that's part of the Brennans Hardware premises has also brightened up that end of town, and there's a new business opening there shortly.
Summer looks like it's being very good to Kilcullen. Which will all help us deal with the inevitable winter in later months.
