Entertainment at The Moat this week
The Moat Theatre in Naas has another busy week upcoming, offering a variety of attractions from comedy to hypnotism to classical music.
Spike Milligan’s ‘Puckoon’ is being presented on Wednesday 4 May by the Northern Ireland-based Big Telly Theatre Company, and in its current travels has received epithets such as ‘rip-roaring’, ‘highly entertaining’ and ‘League of Gentlemen meets Monty Python’. The story revolves around Ireland in 1922, and the Ulster Boundary Commission has drawn the new border straight through the small town of Puckoon. With the church separated from its own graveyard and drink now 30 percent cheaper in one corner of the pub, life in the newly divided village will never be the same again.
Hypnotist Adrian Knight brings to Naas his ‘You’re Back on the Stage’ tour on Thursday 5 May, with the theatre promising that you’ll rethink hypnotism after seeing the show. Knight has more than 15 years’ experience as a comedy hypnotist and his stage show can last for up to two hours of entertainment, fast-moving stories and audience participation.
And on Sunday 8 May, violinist Vladimir Jablokov presents his ‘One Night in Vienna’ performance, easing the way to the end of the weekend. From Slovakia, he has made Ireland his home and from beginnings of busking on Dublin’s Grafton Street he has established himself as one of the brightest young stars on the Irish classical scene, with concerts and recordings that show his love of Viennese music, contemporary pop and crossover, and the great heritage of Russian and Eastern European classical composers.
All bookings can be made by calling the box office on 045 5883030.
