B and The Honeyboy in the BAG
Another BAG debut next week, with the fantastic B & The Honeyboy making their first appearance, writes Roy Thompson of the Ballymore Acoustic Gigs. I recently described their sound as 'an up-tempo swinging Rockabilly jazz sound'. Suffice to say, they're great! Come see them, Live in Mick Murphy's, Ballymore Eustace, Co Kildare, Monday 11 April, Doors 8:30pm. Admission €12.
B & The Honeyboy are a deliciously rootsy duo comprised of ‘B’ (aka Aileen Mythen) and KJ McEvoy (guitarist and songwriter extraordinaire and brother of songstress Eleanor McEvoy). While their first album was quite the bluesy affair, their most recent album ‘Forgotten Books’ sees them widening their musical palette and draws on a more diverse set of influences from the noir-ish Americana of the title track to the ghostly Country feel of 'Now and then to the full on high energy Rockabilly of 'Image on my retina'.
Their songs have been compared to Fleetwood Mac, Rodney Crowell, The Civil Wars and Emmylou Harris.
