Teach na nDaoine street collection
Just in case you haven't been downtown over the last couple of days, the street collection in aid of the Teach na nDaoine project is in full swing, writes Brian Byrne.
Pictured are Albert Keenan and Joe Dooley, just two of a stream of helpers who have been shaking the collection boxes.
Albert says the refurbishment work is going well, with electricians and plumbers helping out at the moment.
But he resisted giving a timescale for completion, saying a lot will depend on funds. A number of other fundraisers are planned.
"People are being very generous and there's lots of positive interest in the project," he told the Diary. "We're also getting a lot of offers of help with various aspects of the construction and refurbishment work."
